      About

One Laptop Per ChildThe Pace of Change: A Blog for Sagacious Educators is written by Barry Pace, a K-12 Technology Director, to stimulate conversations between educators adapting to the rapid pace of change in education.

I am a member of ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) SIG1to1, NCaect (North Carolina Association for Educational Communications and Technology) changing to NCTIES, and NCASA (North Carolina Association of School Administrators). I am also a founding member of The Partnership for Global Education through the Asia Society.

I maintain the unofficial ISTE SIG1to1 Ning (http://sig1to1.ning.com)

I am, of course, a firm believer in using the power of technology to transform education.

I began my career in education in 1996 as a Career and Technical Education teacher at Richlands High School in Onslow County, North Carolina.  I had the opportunity to assist students in the creation of three Richlands High School yearbooks as the yearbook advisor. I also created the first Richlands High School Website, co-sponsored Future Business Leaders of America, and helped coach Junior Varsity Baseball.

In December of 1998 I married and moved to McDowell County and began teaching computer applications and e-commerce at McDowell High School where I also co-sponsored the Future Business Leaders of America. I co-created the McDowell County Schools Web Portal and acted as Webmaster for the McDowell High School Website. I also coached varsity softball, tennis and golf.

I have had the honor of serving as the Director of Technology for McDowell County Schools since December, 2003.

I am blessed to have an awesome family.  My wife Stephanie is currently a homemaker, but has taught high school English, coached college volleyball, and worked in an elementary school as a sign language interpreter.  I also have two wonderful daughters.

I affirm the historic Christian faith and rest assured in the life-transforming Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Gospel is good news, the very best news anyone can hear so I love sharing my faith.

      Thank you for stopping by.
